Uniform Aerosol Dispersion

Post Date: January 17, 2007

Firm: Terra Holdings

Contact: Larry Pines (e-mail Larry here for more information)

Preferred Region or State of Student: New York, Connecticut, or New Jersey

Project Description:

  • To simulate dispersion of fuel aerosol into a closed space and optimize the geometry of that space to maximize fuel efficiency via increased turbulence.
  • To modify physical combustion chamber geometry in accordance with the simulation.

Skills needed:

  • CAD, flow dynamics, computer simulation, laser scribe/marking, automotive dynamometer and 4 gas emissions testing

Pick-n-Put

Post Date: January 10, 2007

Firm: Overseas Engineering LLC

Contact: Teresa Conant (e-mail Teresa here for more information)

Preferred Region or State of Student: Massachusetts

Project Description: Design and field testing in practical robotics.

We have a limited robotic device in the early stages of development.

Workshop, computers, etc. are onsite. Other materials to be supplied as needed.

We seek students who have the unique ability to come up with elegant and practical solutions, i.e., the less "high tech," complicated and expensive, the better. Such solutions will be incorporated to help make our unit function in various highly populated environments with an interface intuitive to someone who might read "XYZ for Dummies."

We consider our project suited to students interested in a serious robotics career.

Skills needed:

  • Background in materials science.
  • Some electrical engineering helpful.

Consumer Item

Post Date: December 21, 2006

Firm: Candle Carousels LLC

Contact: Anne Florenzano (e-mail Anne here for more information)

Preferred Region or State of Student: Minnesota

Project Description: I need mechanical design and materials development resulting in prototypes of 3 basic "platforms" for a consumer item. This item will be developed artistically after the mechanical prototypes are complete.

Skills needed:

  • to be creative, to "think outside of the box", bringing fresh design to this item using basic physical and mechanical principles. In the broadest of terms, this project is not "rocket science," but ideal for someone who is interested in exploring some fundamental principles and coming up with new and unique ways to harness them.
  • to understand mechanical design and material selection for weight, balance, motion, efficiency, cost etc. as well as for best and/or most efficient production possibilities
  • to bring understanding of actual production challenges to the design prototype
  • to develop a flexible, efficient and cost-effective way to deliver different seasonal and artistic designs to the basic platforms.
  • to bring a sense of fun to the possibilities of this simple item.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED you will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement before the details of the project are discussed.
