Create initial virtual prototype of plastic toy

Post Date: April 18, 2007

Website: http://www.nfmta.com

Preferred Region or State of Student: none

Project Description: Create initial VIRTUAL(CAD/other) prototype of a toy product concept, from strictly the functional point of view. This virtual prototype needs to be functionally accurate and closely approximate the final dimensions of all parts, but need not address the aesthetic/marketing goals. This prototype will be used solely to submit to overseas mfctr's to obtain realistic mfctrg cost quotes on molds, plastic, etc. based on accurate dimensions, in order to determine if the product can be profitably made.

(The product is a non-electronic teaching tool/toy with a patented design, that has one or possibly no moving parts, will include approximately the same parts and have similar dimensions as a "Magna Doodle" toy: injection molded or blow molded plastic case approximately 9" x 14" x 2", plastic writing pen containing a magnetic writing tip, attaching string for pen, transparencies with printed images, magnetic drawing sheet.)

Working physical prototype and patent drawings available.

SkillsNeeded: CAD/other drafting expertise; hopefully, knowledge of injection molding, blow molding, common plastics and manufacturing methods used for plastic toys, knowledge of standard industrial designs for simple mechanical parts (for example, hinges and fasteners for lidded boxes).
